Here is our youngest piano student, Iris, performing a piano solo at her school’s talent show. Iris played beautifully and doesn’t look a bit nervous. Another of our piano students, Elle, performed a dance routine with a couple of friends at this same talent show. We are very proud of our students and are so happy that they are sharing their talents with others.
Congratulations to our joint winners for the month of February–Logan and Brent. They both practiced 500 minutes during the month. Great job guys!
The Practice Minutes contest has been hugely successful in encouraging our piano students to practice. However, it has come to our attention that since a couple of students are home schooled, they often have more free time to practice. Also, a couple of students are much more advanced and have longer songs to practice which makes it easier for them to get higher numbers when practicing as opposed to beginner pianists with songs that are sometimes no more than 30 seconds long. Therefore, in a spirit of fairness, we will be discontinuing the Practice Minutes contest.
Piano students should continue to aim for a minimum of 20 minutes of practice at least 5 days per week even if some time is spent reviewing old pieces or practicing scales. We are working on a new idea for a contest–but one that will be fair to all students no matter how advanced or how or where they attend school.
Thanks for understanding and for all the hard work pianists!
This year we asked our students 12 and younger to participate in a paper pumpkin decorating contest to help make our music studio more festive for Halloween. All of the pumpkins were creative and fun, however we had to select a winner. Since we wanted an impartial judge who didn’t know the students, we allowed our 5 year old granddaughter to pick her favorite as the winner. Kate’s pumpkin (bottom right) was chosen.
Kate won a gift bag of treats. Congratulations Kate!
All the pumpkins are up in our music studio, and the best part of all is that they can be used again and again at Halloween, and we will have a remembrance of our wonderful students for years to come. Thank you students for participating in the contest and making our music studio Halloween ready!
Congratulations to Logan and Brent who tied for most practice minutes for the month of September. They both practiced over 400 minutes. September was a very close race. Logan and Brent beat out 2nd place finishers Audrey and Iris by only 10 minutes. Keep up the great work everyone!
Congratulations to our newest and youngest piano student–Iris–for winning our Practice Minutes Contest for the month of August. It takes a lot of effort to get 395 minutes of piano practice in a month’s time, so great job Iris! Students–be sure to keep track of how many minutes you are practicing each week so that YOU can be the winner in September!
This is Breni/(Tanja) who was a vocal student for 3.5 years while she was in high school. She is recently graduated from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee and as well as continuing her musical career is now working for BMG Music in Nashville.
This is one of her songs she wrote and recorded. Fantastic Tanja!
